Cyprus visas, residence permits and employment permits are different documents. A visa normally concerns entry and a short stay; a residence permit supports a longer lawful stay; employment requires the permission attached to the relevant work category. The label alone does not determine rights.
The ordinary short-stay limit is up to 90 days in any 180-day period, subject to nationality, passport, entry-purpose and border rules. A short stay does not authorise residence beyond the limit or local employment.
The Regulation 14 autonomous visitor permit is for non-EU nationals supported by sufficient resources who will not undertake economic activity in Cyprus. It normally runs for one year and may be renewed. The live MVIS8 checklist controls the evidence; an old fixed-income slogan should not replace it, and foreign remote work is not automatically permitted.
Employment routes include general remunerated employment, Companies of Foreign Interests, the EU Blue Card, intra-corporate transfer and other occupation-specific categories. The employer, role, salary, qualifications, labour-market process, duration and maximum stay depend on the chosen route. A pending application or company registration is not work authorisation.
The Digital Nomad Visa is for remote work for foreign employers or clients and currently requires EUR 3,500 net monthly income. The first permit is one year, renewable for up to two more, and the scheme cap is 500.
The Startup Visa is a different route for an approved innovative business. Its Initial Approval covers economic activity for two years but does not automatically grant entry, residence or employment. The separate immigration application is mandatory.
Regulation 6(2) is the expedited investor policy: at least EUR 300,000 in one of four eligible categories plus the current income and quality conditions. Category F is a distinct Regulation 5 income-based immigration permit with no EUR 300,000 investment threshold. EU long-term-resident status is another separate application after an eligible five-year lawful-and-continuous residence period.
EU citizens and qualifying family members use the free-movement registration and residence-card procedures rather than the third-country routes above. UK nationals protected by the Withdrawal Agreement use their own documentation; post-transition movers are generally assessed as third-country nationals.
No residence route should be described as automatically creating Cyprus tax residence, non-dom status, permanent residence or citizenship. Naturalisation, including Forms M127 and M125, has separate statutory conditions and requires its own application.
We can classify the proposed stay and identify the correct current Cyprus procedure before an application is filed.

“I have been using Polycarpos Philippou for both my temporary residency visa application and for my house purchase. Nikolas and Laura both worked very hard to achieve the former, which has just been successfully submitted, and the whole process was a pleasure. Equally, Ioannis and Anita are ensuring my house purchase is running smoothly. I have no hesitation whatsoever in unreservedly recommending Polycarpos Philippou & Associates.”
