What is a Pink Slip in Cyprus?

The Cyprus Pink Slip is a temporary residence permit issued to non-EU nationals who wish to live in Cyprus for more than 90 days. Officially known as the Temporary Residence Permit, it is valid for up to one year, renewable annually, and does not grant the right to work in Cyprus. The permit is administered by the Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD).

Under Regulation 14, holders may reside as visitors but cannot carry out economic activity in Cyprus. A prolonged absence can cause the permit to cease to be valid; the holder should check the current re-entry and absence rule before travel rather than relying on the card's printed expiry alone.

What Are the Benefits of the Cyprus Pink Slip?

• Temporary Residency: Provides residency in Cyprus for more than 3 months. The permit is typically valid for 1 year and renewable annually, provided the applicant continues to meet the requirements. If the applicant's passport expires sooner, the Pink Slip's validity will end three months before the passport expiration date.
• Family Inclusion: The main applicant's spouse and children under 18 can also obtain residency permits. Each family member submits a separate application but they are processed together.
• Longer lawful visitor residence: An approved permit allows residence for its stated period. It does not retrospectively cure an overstay or override visa, entry or re-entry conditions.
• Separate status while another application is pending: A Pink Slip may provide a lawful visitor status while another application is examined, but filing a permanent-residence application does not itself create or extend visitor status.
• No automatic citizenship conversion: A Pink Slip does not itself create a citizenship route. A holder may submit a separate Form M127 naturalisation application only if the residence periods counted under the law and every language, knowledge, character, accommodation, financial and intention-to-reside condition are met.

What Are the Limitations of the Cyprus Pink Slip?

• Economic-activity restriction: Regulation 14 visitor-permit holders cannot carry out economic activity in Cyprus. The permit does not authorise remote work, management or an unpaid directorship. Passive share ownership and receipt of investment income do not by themselves create work rights.
• Absence and re-entry: A visitor permit can cease to be valid after the applicable prolonged absence. Confirm the current three-month re-entry rule and the validity of both passport and card before travel.
• Non-EU Nationals Only: The Pink Slip is granted only to non-EU nationals. EU citizens should apply for the Yellow Slip instead.
• Annual Renewal: The permit must be renewed each year. You must continue to meet the financial and residency requirements at each renewal.

What Are the Financial Requirements for a Cyprus Pink Slip?

Stable Income Requirement (Bank Statement)

The applicant must prove stable and sufficient resources from outside Cyprus and provide the evidence required by the current autonomous-visitor checklist. The authorities assess the source, regularity, family size, bank history and accommodation evidence. Do not treat a separate €10,000 account balance as a universal statutory test: the live MVIS8 supporting-document list at the filing date controls the required amounts and evidence.

Figures used in older checklists or for a different category, such as the Digital Nomad Scheme, must not be copied into a Regulation 14 visitor application. We verify the current autonomous-visitor list for the applicant and each dependent before submission.

Other Requirements

1. Stable and sufficient resources from abroad, evidenced in the form required by the live checklist.
2. Suitable accommodation evidenced by the current required title deed or rental documents.
3. A bank guarantee only where the supporting-document list for the applicant's category and nationality requires it. The amount is nationality-specific; electronic-money institutions cannot issue it.
4. Valid health insurance coverage, either international or local.
5. Additional subsidiary requirements may apply depending on the applicant's circumstances.

How to Submit a Cyprus Pink Slip Application

1. Book an Appointment: Schedule with the Immigration City Unit before your visa expires. Appointments fill up quickly, so book as early as possible.
2. Select Property: Choose a qualifying rental or purchase property. The rental agreement must be for at least one year.
3. Prepare financial evidence: Obtain the bank statements, income evidence and transfer records specified in the current autonomous-visitor checklist. Do not transfer an assumed fixed amount before confirming the live requirements.
4. Prepare Documents: Collect and translate all required documents into English or Greek. Ensure they are properly certified:
   • Apostille countries: Documents from countries party to the Hague Apostille Convention must bear an apostille stamp.
   • Non-apostille countries: Documents must be certified by the competent authorities (e.g. Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the Cyprus Embassy/Consulate in the issuing country.
   • Translations: Must be carried out by sworn/official translators or other officially recognised services.
5. Attend Appointment: Submit your application in person at the Immigration Unit.
6. Pay Fees: Cover the application fees at the time of submission.
7. Biometric Data: Submit your photograph, signature, and fingerprints.
8. Application processing: The Migration Department states that a sufficiently documented visitor application is usually examined within four months. A submission receipt is evidence of the pending application, not an issued permit and not a guarantee of approval or unrestricted travel. Obtain advice on lawful stay and re-entry while the application is pending.

Required Documents for Pink Slip Application and Renewal

1. Application Form: Completed MVIS8 form for each family member. Each family member, including spouses and children, must submit a separate form.
2. Rental or Sale Agreement: Certified by Muhtar or a certifying officer.
3. Bank statements and income evidence: The precise period, source and amount must follow the current autonomous-visitor checklist for the applicant and dependants.
4. Bank guarantee, if required: Confirm whether the category and nationality require one and use the current official nationality table.
5. Health Insurance: International or local coverage valid for at least one year.
6. Proof of Income: Documents to prove stable income from abroad.
7. Passport Copy: Valid for at least 15 months beyond the application date.
8. Marriage and Birth Certificates (if applicable): Properly certified and translated.
9. School Enrolment Confirmation for Children (if applicable)

Additional Documents for First-Time Applicants

Criminal Record

• Original criminal record certificates translated into English. The certificates must be legalised with an Apostille stamp, or certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of issuance and by the Cyprus Embassy of that country.
• The certificate must be no older than six months at the time of submission.
• For citizens of the United Kingdom, the criminal record must be from the ACRO Criminal Records Office, not the DBS.
• Certification and translation must follow the current Migration Department checklist and the document's country of issue. Do not rely on a nationality-specific Apostille or translation exception unless the live authority guidance expressly confirms it for that document and filing date.

Medical Examination

• Submit the medical evidence listed in the current checklist. The tests, place of issue, certification and validity period can change and must not be inferred from an older application pack.

Cyprus Pink Slip Approval Time

The Migration Department's current published target is usually within four months for a sufficiently documented application. Whether a particular applicant may remain or re-enter while a case is pending depends on their existing lawful status, submission and travel facts. Approval is not presumed.

Processing Time

• Official published target: usually within four months where the information and documents are sufficient.
• Requests for evidence, verification or incomplete documentation can extend the case.
• No shorter renewal time or approval outcome is guaranteed.

Interim Period

During the processing time:

• A submission receipt proves that an application was lodged.
• It is not the residence card and does not by itself decide every overstay, employment, travel or re-entry issue.
• Applicants should confirm their lawful-stay and travel position before a visa or existing permit expires.

Application Review Time

• The Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD) in Nicosia reviews all applications.
• Applicants will be contacted within the processing period if the application is approved or if additional information is needed.
